Chemistry and structure

Textilene is usually a PVC-coated polyester mesh engineered for outdoor seating. The polyester yarn provides tensile strength while the coating improves weathering and cleanability.

Because the weave is open, air and water move through it much more easily than through dense upholstery fabric. That is a major reason it is popular in terrace furniture.

How it behaves in furniture

It performs well in sling chairs and outdoor lounge pieces where the structure itself should breathe, dry quickly and stay visually light.

Its limits are tactile rather than structural. It feels firmer and more technical than padded upholstery, and long unsupported spans can sag if tensioning is weak.

Care and design watch-outs

Moisture and wear note: Designed for outdoor moisture exposure and fast drainage.

Care note: Rinse sunscreen, pollen and dirt out of the mesh so the coating stays cleaner and more flexible.
