Aluminium
Aluminium in furniture: Lightweight, corrosion resistant and dimensionally stable outdoors.
Aluminium appears across 4 product families and 27 options, especially on Gazebos & Pergolas, Outdoor Dining Chairs, Outdoor Dining Tables, Outdoor Lounge Seating, Outdoor Lounge Sets and Outdoor Storage.
Chemistry and structure
Aluminium forms a thin oxide layer almost immediately. That passive layer is why it is widely described as rust-free in furniture use.
The metal has low density relative to steel and conducts heat quickly. Outdoor frames stay easy to move, but the surface can feel cold in winter and hot in direct sun.
How it behaves in furniture
It is strongest as a frame, leg or structural shell material where low weight and weather tolerance matter.
Its trade-off is softness compared with steel. Thin sections can dent, and threaded joints need careful design so repeated tightening does not strip the softer parent metal.
Care and design watch-outs
Moisture and wear note: Does not rust like ferrous steel, but salty and acidic conditions can still stain or pit the surface over time.
Care note: Wash with mild soap, rinse off salt and avoid abrasive pads on coated frames.
Strengths
- corrosion resistance
- low weight
- outdoor suitability
Watch-outs
- surface dents more easily than steel
- can heat up or cool down quickly
- coating damage should be monitored in coastal use
